EDINBURGH, UK and SANTA CLARA, California—May 24th, 2007— Edinburgh University Press, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University of Edinburgh with a reputation for publishing high quality books and journals, has entered into an agreement with Atypon Systems, Inc., a leading e-publishing solutions provider, to develop an online Journals and Reference Work publication and hosting platform.

Under the agreement Atypon will work with Edinburgh University Press (EUP), as its trusted technology partner, to develop an online solution for the delivery of scholarly content from EUP. Building on EUP’s existing investments in online content delivery, the agreement will provide a new individually branded, content management and delivery web site designed to flexibly accommodate multiple business models designed to grow EUP’s business. EUP will benefit from Atypon’s proven capabilities in increasing discoverability and widening readership and revenues, including providing Pay Per View and other e-commerce functionality.

In addition to Journal content, the site will allow EUP to publish online their Africa Bibliography, a searchable database of published works in African studies. This will be available in a number of languages, including Portuguese, French and German, as well as English.

Chris Beckett, VP of Sales and Marketing of Atypon Systems, commented:

“Atypon’s Premium solution provides greater branding, more marketing opportunities, and more control for the publisher over how their content looks and is delivered, than any other electronic publishing solution in the market. This control over all aspects of their web presence is available from the desktop to any Atypon Premium publisher client, enabling rapid experimentation with the numerous features of the platform to see what combinations of content and features works best for different market sectors.”

Timothy Wright, Chief Executive at Edinburgh University Press, added:

“This exciting new partnership with ATYPON is an important milestone for Edinburgh University Press as it continues to develop its journals business. Journals publishing is changing more rapidly than any other sector in the industry, and as a medium sized publisher we need to ensure that we embrace the new technologies that are available to maximise the readership of our journals and continue to provide a first class service to our editors.”
